Former Padres Third Baseman Sean Burroughs Passes Away at 43

MLB Player and Little League Star Remembered

The San Diego Padres announced today that former third baseman Sean Burroughs passed away on Friday at the age of 43. Burroughs, who played for the Padres from 2004 to 2006, was a two-time Little League World Series champion and an Olympic gold medalist.

Early Life and Career

Burroughs was born in Long Beach, California, and attended Mater Dei High School. He was a standout baseball player, helping Mater Dei win the CIF Southern Section championship in 1994. Burroughs was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the 1994 MLB Draft.

Major League Success

Burroughs made his MLB debut with the Padres in 2004. He played in 182 games with the team, batting .255 with 15 home runs and 68 RBIs. Burroughs also played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Cincinnati Reds, and Texas Rangers during his seven-year MLB career.

Olympic Glory

In addition to his MLB success, Burroughs was a member of the United States baseball team that won the gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
